Nurses are trained to listen carefully to our patients. I learned a lot by listening to our patients while working in Bariatrics (medical weight loss).
Especially
1) weight loss can improve many medical conditions more quickly than prescription medications.
2) common 'adult onset medical conditions' such as hypertension prediabetes diabetes sleep apnea cholesterol issues, were actually weight onset , not age onset. This became obvious when these Medical conditions resolved with weight loss although, age had not changed!
3) 3-NHH (3- Naturally Hungriest Hours)
I learned that our circadian rhythm sends us signals to eat, at approximately the same time, each day. This signal rarely occurs before late afternoon & makes us suddenly feel very hungry ('starving' is the adjective heard most often). Although we may 'forget' to eat breakfast or be 'too busy' to stop for lunch, no one has ever forgotten or been too busy to eat for a week, because of this signal we receive daily.
2) O.P.S. (Other People's Suggestions)
I realized we were giving advice that did not FEEL natural (such as: 'eat every 3 hours even if you are not hungry' , do not eat when you do feel hungry (do not eat after 5:00 p.m., do not skip eating breakfast) eat this_____ ( ex. Cottage cheese , salads) not that ____ (avoid sugar, salt ) ignore your cravings (especially for anything sweet or salty). Which meant even if the advice was followed and produced weight loss the weight would quickly return when we went back to our natural setting.
5) I researched the many different types of new and old bariatric medications which have been prescribed to accelerate weight loss. I now know it is impossible to identify the best RX for each person without comparing their weight loss every 1-2 weeks and making adjustments as needed.
Using all of this information, I designed The Whole Health Plan, a simple natural
